Saddam Facing Death Penalty in Tomorrow's Verdict

A verdict is expected tomorrow in the trial of Saddam Hussein for crimes against Shiites in the 80s. Should Saddam receive the death penalty, Iraqi law requires execution by hanging. US and Iraqi forces are preparing for an outbreak of violence. Saddam's chief counsel, Khalil al-Dulaimi, aid that Hussein is not afraid, but that US troops should be. Here's a pretty frightening quote from Dulaimi:

"The verdict will be a political one, in accordance with the instructions of the American Hitler. When the verdict is announced, the doors of hell will open in Iraq, the sectarian divide in the country will deepen, and many more coffins will be sent back to America. And the disaster will not be limited to Iraq. The entire Middle East will be consumed, and hatreds will be sown between Americans and Arabs that will last for generations."

Yikes. If Hussein gets the death penalty I'm not sure if it will be good or bad for Republicans in the upcoming election. A large outbreak of violence could quickly erase any positivity stemming from bringing Saddam to justice. For more, read on here.
