UN Commissioner On Middle East Violence
After a recent trip to the Middle East UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour reports "the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory is grave and worsening, within a general climate of impunity." She also said that Israel has a right to defend itself but must do so "in accordance with international human rights and humanitarian law." There are questions about whether or not Israel violated international law in an attack on the town of Beit Hanun that left 19 Palestinian civilians dead.
